Her eyes widened in disbelief at the explosion in front of her that released a shockwave that rocked the entire Sinnoh region. How did it get to this point? Where did it all go wrong? She was only following orders... why was this happening to her? For a brief moment, all she could think about is wanting to go home, back to her room in Floaroma Town where she could curl up with Nox watching the latest rom-com and gorging herself on salted popcorn and a pint of ice cream.
It would probably be best to start back at the beginning. Camilla's eyes closed and plunged her world in darkness momentarily until lights flickered on and she found herself at a lunch table with a bunch of girls laughing at her misfortune of getting gum stuck in her hair that resulted in an atrocious bob-cut that made Camilla look like the school's librarian, Ms. Fritz. Her eyes clenched shut to stop the tears from flowing, not wanting to give in to her feelings. The sound of a tap on the microphone brought her back and she reopened her eyes to see General Ariadne standing at the podium in the Azure Academy auditorium. She was standing beside her best friend, Violet, awaiting to join Team Galactic. Ariadne opened her mouth to speak and the scene swirled like a vortex, sucking Camilla into it and shooting her through space and time.
Images flashed alongside her like paintings in a museum as she sped through the vortex. The smoldering remains of Azure Academy. The faux news report she participated in. Fighting hand to hand with another Galactic Recruit in their HQ under Iron Island. Feeling the wind knocked out of her as she was flung to the ground during a training exercise. The wind in her hair as she rode on the back of Violet's motorcycle during vehicle training. Sol's presence pushing her against the wall of the Contest Hall. The feeling of adrenaline surging through her veins as she leaped from rooftop to rooftop and made that final, near impossible jump to the Galactic helicopter.
The images began to blur together like one seamless movie, moving faster and becoming gradually more cloudy.
The Pokémon Center exploding in her wake as she fled the scene. Her second official squad mission in obtaining the Golden Armor. The... meeting with General Ariadne. The operating chair. The inability to disobey any command and an insatiable bloodlust. The Valentine's Day that she made sure Loretta would never forget. The look on Sol's face. The preparation in the barracks for the impending war. The looming view of Mt. Coronet towering overhead. The view of Spear Pillar sprawled out before her squad. The sound of battle ringing in her ears. Fighting alongside Violet against her former classmates. Their faces of sorrow, despair, disgust, and longing - longing for a different outcome, one that would never happen.
The movie began to slow down and slowly refocus. The sight of a dark-haired woman engulfed in blue, the students of Azure combining their efforts in one last ultimate attack at the golden-clad Galactic Leader wielding the Azure Flute. The explosion that followed, sending out shockwaves that rocked the entire Sinnoh region. The sight of Violet turning and locking eyes with Camilla, now free of Ariadne's control, calling out one final command. "Solrock do as promised, Psychic Barrier!"
Camilla watched as Solrock spun and consumed her and Nox in a protective psionic bubble. Camilla felt the armor's control on her mind loosen enough that she was able to extend her arm outward and screamed as she watched her best friend consumed in the heat of the explosion. "Violet! NO!"
She felt her heart in her throat and hot tears streaming down her face as the bubble rode the explosion away into the sky, hidden amidst the black clouds of smoke. The further she flew from her best friend, the further she felt her mind separating from reality and any semblance of humanity she once had.
Camilla Briar died on Spear Pillar... but in her place, Scorpio was born.
