Pokémon Movesets and Ranking System
• For this roleplay, we have decided to exclude the use of Levels and Experience due to the fact that it takes a while to keep constant track of what levels people's Pokémon are at and how much experience they have. Plus it puts a lot of focus on biography editing, which we're trying to stay away from. • As an alternative, we have thought up the idea of using "Pokémon Ranks" in order to display what moves your Pokémon can learn and what moves they're restricted from learning. The idea of this is that if a Pokémon is at a certain rank they will have access to moves within a certain level range, the moves obviously being dependent on the Pokémon. A Pokémon is allowed to have up to 4 moves at a time. Upon reaching a new Rank, a set of that Pokémon's moves becomes unlocked. • For example, if a Pokémon were to reach Rank 2, it then gains access to its level 11-20 moves. You may then choose to change any pre-existing moves your Pokémon knows with as many of these new moves up to a total of 4 moveslots.
• All Pokémon that you capture start at Rank 1, which means they have access to moves up to level 10. Pokémon ascend to a higher rank after earning 5 wins, and after they rank up they will need an additional 5 wins to climb to the next rank. Wins can be obtained in various ways such as events or missions, but the most common way is through Pokémon Battles.
Pokémon Battles | ||||||||||||||||||||||
• Pokémon Battles occur when two consenting trainers decide to battle one another with 1 or more of their Pokémon. Each time a Pokémon defeats another Pokémon it gains a win that counts towards its total number of wins required to rank up. Additionally, when Pokémon are defeated they gain half a win that counts towards their wins to rank up, meaning that they would have 0.5 wins. • In 1v1 single battles, it is simple to determine who gains 1 win and who gains 0.5 of a win at the end, however, in single battles where trainers have parties with more than 1 Pokémon where they strategically switch Pokémon in and out, you can obtain more wins based on how you battle. • In 4v4 tag battles in which each participant uses 2 Pokémon each, it becomes slightly trickier to determine wins. The winning team will receive 4 wins for defeating all 4 of the opposing side's Pokémon. These 4 wins will be divided evenly among the winning participants, so 2 each. Then each winner determines whether they receive participation wins for their Pokémon, or 0.5 of a win if any of their Pokémon fainted. For example, if you were on the winning team and none of your Pokémon fainted, they would each receive one participation win per participating Pokémon. If one, or both of your Pokémon happened to faint, but you still won the battle then your Pokémon would both receive 0.5 of a win. • If one of your Pokémon fights against an enemy Pokémon and does damage to it but isn't the one to defeat it, then it is able to gain a participation win as long as it doesn't get knocked out by the time the battle ends. Participation wins are effectively the same as regular wins but they're given to Pokémon that actively participate in battle but don't actually K.O any Pokémon and don't get knocked out themselves. A single Pokémon can only gain 1 participation win per battle but other Pokémon in your team can also get them, if your Pokémon faints at any point during the battle then they cannot gain a participation win.
