WELCOME TO GALAR
Six months have passed since the events of Sword and Shield, and Galar has once again opened its gates for all to participate in the new season of the Pokémon League.
With only a select few receiving an endorsement, these Trainers must travel the region and win all 8 Gym Badges in order to participate in the final tournament as the whole of Galar watches.
Taemin blinked. Holy shit. He had practically forgotten that their first meeting was him saving her from drowning. He scoffed at himself and rubbed his face, in slight disbelief that he let that memory slip. It’s not as though he wanted to think about it constantly, but to completely forget about it until just now? He must have really repressed it.
“Christ,” He snorted to himself and shook his head. “I mean, that was definitely something, but. I kind of forgot about that until… like, right now. My bad?”
He laughed at himself again and fell into a comfortable silence, glad for it. It was nice to have lulls in conversations when you had the knowledge that the other person didn’t view it as awkward. Taemin stared at the sky, almost letting his mind wander back to his family and friends at home before Bryony’s words brought him back quickly and made him blink in surprise.
“What?” Taemin waved his hand dismissively and gave her an amused expression. “You flatter me, farmer girl. I’m not really sure I actually have the knack for it like you do.”

Bryony frowned a little at him dismissing the idea of him being a battler. She rolled her eyes, knowing that it was really his choice and perhaps not the career path her wanted, but it never hurt to at least practice more.
"Hey, don't knock yourself like that," she said, crossing her arms and facing him. "You had the type advantage, sure, but you pummeled me in that battle. You've got a competitive spirit, I could see it."
"Plus, you've got language on your side. You caught me off-guard because I couldn't understand what you were calling, and it messed with my counters." Bryony smiled a bit, amused by the memory of the battle that had happened only a few minutes prior.
"You should at least try to battle more. You've got strong Pokémon. And besides," she said, a slightly more serious expression crossing her face. "Who knows. That practice might help us down the line."
She didn't allow the thoughts of Galactic and the growing signs of more trouble on the horizon to overwhelm her this time. As of now, she just accepted that this was the reality of the situation, and there was no use pondering on it any longer. What needed to happen now, was that they needed to safely make it to Pastoria City, stay there for a while, and make a game plan on where to go next as a group. Should anything happened, they needed to be ready, including for a battle.
And, deep down, she just couldn't stand the thought of anyone hurt. Anyone.
Taemin paused at the last bit of her spheal, realizing that he hadn’t thoroughly considered facing more of Team Galactic directly. It was definitely a possibility that he needed to be prepared for, he knew that much. He just didn’t want to think about it, even if it was necessary. But with Bryony, bringing it up, he came to the conclusion that he had to now. Bryony had a point too: becoming expertised in battle would not only help him, but potentially others in the future.
“Guess I can’t argue with you there,” He sighed and looked back towards the sky, his smile contorting into a sadder one as he thought about Alola. He didn’t need to help them, sure, but with Bryony’s explanation about her experience in Unova, there could always be someone else out there who needed help, right? Maybe. He wasn’t sure, really.
“When I came into Azure Academy, it was mostly out of a dare,” Taemin scoffed from the ridiculousness, realizing it sounded worse saying it aloud.
“I never even considered becoming a professional trainer. I was completely convinced that I was gonna go down the same path as my parents and be a professional athlete. But my friends said I couldn’t graduate, so I made a bet that I could prove them wrong. But… I guess they were right after all.”
His voice went quieter towards the end and his shifted his foot against the dirt. “At least they don’t have the chance to rub it in my face anymore, huh?” Taemin tilted his head, his smile going lax again even though it didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“And it seems like I’m not being given much choice, right? I’m definitely considering your words. Actually, I've been thinking about it even before this. I just… need to learn how to train and battle. Properly, this time.”

Bryony's shoulders relaxed and her crossed arms loosened up a bit as Taemin began to explain himself. Her expression, once stone-hard with seriousness, softened and became more sympathetic as he went on, looking at the sky with him. It saddened her, his reasoning for coming to the Academy. He didn't come for the prestige. He came to prove a point. To prove others wrong.
And Galactic had taken that away. They had taken the satisfaction of graduating from all of them, but for Taemin, it was a tad more personal.
"I can teach you," she finally responded, meeting his look with a small, sympathetic smile when she saw the laxness didn't mask the sadness in his eyes. "I know I'm not a professional or anything, but I know a few things. As well as a couple tricks from the subways."
"We're gonna figure this out. Us, and Jirou too, so he can get back home, too. And we'll all do it as a team."
She smiled a bit more, nudging his arm. "And we won't rub anything in your face, either. We do this together. Sound good?"

Taemin turned his head towards Bryony as she offered her help and optimistic motivation. It was… unexpected of her, with how stoic and logical she usually was. So to hear something cheesy coming from her mouth was admittedly a little funny. But, at the same time, it made it even more helpful to have that come from someone like her. His smile turned more genuine as she nudged him and nodded, standing a bit straighter.
“Yeah. That actually sounds awesome.” He chuckled quietly, making sure to tuck away the knowledge that he wasn’t alone in this. Not anymore. She was right: they would all figure this out and get back home, somehow. No matter how much time it took. What was he thinking, moping around in a depressed ball like he did earlier?
He nudged her back lightly as his smile turned softer, feeling some of the tension from the early morning begin to leave him. Taemin paused for a moment, seeming to think to himself before he spoke again in a quiet tone.

At the sound of him saying her name, Bryony's eyes widened a little in surprise. It caught her off guard, him saying it, but she couldn't help but feel a little more at ease. It relieved her further to see him soften a bit and loosen up, glad to see that he took what she said and really considerd it. With a smile, she nodded and stuffed her hands in her pockets again, chuckling a little as she responded.
"You're welcome. It's just the truth though," she said, before blowing some air at a stray strand of hair away from her face. "Sorry, that sounded a little cheesy before. I mean, it worked and all, but damn. That's like, movie material." She laughed a little at herself, before looking at the street, tiredness starting to make her senses little dulled.
"Wanna walk back together? We oughta get some rest if we're heading out for Pastoria tomorrow."

With her stating that she was merely telling the truth, Taemin felt a little at ease. Perhaps he’d be a little delusional to not accept that he had at least a tiny bit of potential with battling. So maybe he could work off of that with her help.
“Maybe you should consider being a movie director instead,” Taemin replied jokingly and snickered. He nodded from the suggestion of walking back, starting to feel some drowsiness finally set in.
“Yeah, it’s getting pretty late. Let’s see what Pastoria has in store for us.”
