M I N D T H E M I N E S G R E T A Surrounded by dirt, coal and miners hard at work, an elderly woman seemed rather out of place down here in the Oreburgh Mines, but Greta and her two Geodude seemed quite comfortable as they gradually made their way through the underground facility. "Well isn't this marvelous, hm?" Greta said aloud to nobody in particular, but the two Geodude that were carefully floating around her both nodded and muttered in response anyway. "Geo" "Geeo" She seemed to be walking in no particular direction, and even with the Geodude that were constantly floating around her nobody was batting an eye at her; she almost looked like she could work here. "Hm? - Are you okay, Ma'am?" said a nearby miner. Greta turned her head to him, it was a very young man without as much muscle as some of the other men about, possibly a new hire. As she went to respond, she noticed the boy had a nametag reading "Jimmy". "Oh yes, just doing a little sight-seeing, you know?" she said sweetly, trying to keep any further attention off of her. "Oh, okay. Just don't go too deep, only these parts are open to the public." the boy said. Greta merely nodded and continued onward, waiting for the boy to turn his back before turning a corner and heading deeper. Her eyes trailed along the halls of the mines which had been carefully hollowed and carved out through the years as they'd extracted more and more valuable minerals the deeper they'd go. "Mmh, I'm sure I remember it being around here... You leave for a couple decades and they just go and rearrange the place, hmph!" Greta muttered as she tried to figure out the geography of the mines, talking as though the world should be expected to remain static in her absence. As she turned a corner, she felt a strong sense of familiarity wash over her; this specific hallway was definitely the right way. As she continued down this new hallway, the many men in heavy-duty clothing accompanied by their Machop and Hariyama became much less frequent, until Greta could only spot one man at the end of the hallway. "Mh! - It's down there, I know it..." Greta muttered as her eyes locked onto a passageway the man happened to be working right in-front of, but right above the passage read a sign. "No Entry." Greta audibly clicked her teeth in annoyance as she read the sign. Figuring the man by the passageway would definitely stop her if she continued, she gave both of her Geodude a glance, as if to say "play along". With that, Greta's legs suddenly weakened and gave in from under her; nearly collapsing onto the floor if it wasn't for her Geodude, who both extended an arm to support her back so she didn't injure herself. "Ooooh!!" she cried out, just loud enough to catch the attention of the sole miner nearby. "Ah! Ma'am, are you okay?!" the man called out, dropping his tools and rushing to her aid. Greta resisted to urge the grin as she continued her act, her voice becoming much softer and frail than normal. "Ohh thank you my dear, I just felt quite light headded is all..." she said, her acting was top notch. "Are you sure? We're quite deep in the mines, what are you doing down here?" the miner said, his voice still showing concern but with a hint of confusion too. "Ooh it's my grandson, he works down here, you see. I wanted to surprise him, his name is Jimmy." Greta said, using the name of the young man he'd encountered earlier. "Oh right - Yeah I saw him earlier today, but he doesn't work this deep... Shall I take you back up to see him?" the man continued, falling for her story. Greta almost showed a bit of annoyance in her expression, she didn't want him to just escort her out. "Oh of course, that would be--" she said, before feigning another dizzy spell and nearly collapsing again. "Oh dear I shouldn't have skipped breakfast... Do you mind if I sit here and catch my breath for a few minutes? My darling Geodude can keep me company while you find my grandson." Greta said, speaking as softly and meekly as she could to make the miner pity her. The man paused for a moment, torn over the decision as it was clearly unorthodox to allow someone to remain down here unsupervised, but it seemed he had no choice. "Ah, well... Of-Of course, I'll be right back!" the man said, before briskly leaving. After he turned the corner and was out of sight, Greta grinned and effortlessly sprang back up onto her feet. "Right then, let's go." Greta said as she began heading for the passage she'd been eyeing all this time, her Geodude returned to their regular formation of encircling Greta like a pair of moons in orbit. |
