The Nightmare Before Halloween

Ever since the school came back from the Azure Exhibition the students had begun hearing noises coming from the basement of the school during the night. The Headmistress reassured the students that it was nothing more than the resident Ghost-type Pokémon in the basement and that they got considerably restless around this time of year. However, as weeks passed and Halloween drew closer the noises began to get louder and louder. Students had begun reporting seeing mysterious figures walking through the hallways and disappearing through walls. The sound of clawing, almost like digging, and loud bangs resounded through the halls after midnight on a nightly basis. No one dared to stay up past this time for fear of encountering a malevolent spirit in the dark, desolate dormitory hallways...

It was a dark and stormy night and the sound of rain tapped against the windows accompanied by the periodic crash of thunder and flash of lightning that momentarily illuminated the halls. An issue with the dormitory plumbing as a result of an unfortunate prank gone wrong had forced the girls of the Verity dorm to use the communal showers for the past week. Almost all of the girls had finished showering up and headed back to their dorms, except for two. The older brown haired girl stepped out of the shower after drying herself off and brushed a strand of damp hair from her face as she finished her nightly routine for bed. The other younger girl had taken her time getting into the shower and was just barely getting started. The older girl nearly finished her routine when she began to search frantically through her belongings for the last tool to complete the nightly ritual. She sighed audibly and looked at her hair in the mirror. "Ugh..." The girl in the shower was mid-shampoo so she shouldn't see but she turned her head in the direction of the sigh, biting her lip anxiously. "Is everything okay Alouette?" she spoke, just barely enough to get over the sound of the running water. "Yeah, I just forgot my hairbrush back at our dorm. This bathroom situation always has me forgetting something, but if I don't brush my hair now it's going to get all matted while I'm sleeping. But..." The girl bit her lip and looked toward the showers, she didn't like to leave Loretta alone, but the dorm wasn't too far away. Still, she didn't want to leave her friend here alone.

Loretta knew that this was an important part of Alouette's routine, heck, it was important to any girl's routine to brush their hair after dying it after a shower. The warm water had her feeling relaxed even with the periodic crash of thunder that made her heart jump each time, so her overall mood was okay. Besides, she didn't want Alouette to always have to wait around on her, it wasn't fair... as much as she enjoyed the company. "It's okay, you can go back. I'll catch up soon, I'm just enjoying the water..." This was true, but she just wanted to be a good friend. "You sure? I can wait for you." Loretta shook her head even though her friend couldn't see. "Yeah! I... um... I'm gonna be a little longer, I'll catch up." Alouette was rather surprised but she smiled and gathered her belongings. "Okay, I'll see you back there then." With that, the girl departed from the bathroom leaving Loretta to finish up alone.

After quite some time Loretta finally finished readying herself in front of the mirror, but gasped when she swore she saw a face in the mirror behind her. The sound of thunder boomed soon after, causing her heart to pound intensely. A strange hissing noise, accompanied by clawing seemed to be coming from the bathroom pipes and Loretta didn't intend on sticking around to see what it was about. She heard the stories of some girls seeing things, but she desperately tried humming to herself to distract from the thought of it. She gathered her belongings and left hurriedly, going down the dimly lit hallway. She was in quite the rush to get back to the dorm, but her paranoia was kicking in and she wasn't paying attention to where she was going, she just wanted to get as far away from that bathroom as possible. She made a wrong turn and found herself staring down a dead end hallway. Her body went rigid as she saw a strange figure standing at the end of it, staring her down. The creature's glowing red eyes pierced through her soul. For a moment the two just stared at one another and Loretta was almost sure that she had stopped breathing. The shadowy figure began to drift through the darkness towards her at a steady pace causing the girl's heart rate to increase. A crack of thunder followed by a flash of lightning illuminated the hallway from a nearby window, revealing the figure to be some sort of person in a black suit with red glowing eyes. Loretta couldn't help but stifle a gasp as she struggled to move, her body was completely paralyzed as the figure moved closer with each flash of lightning.

Finally, the young girl was so full of fear that when the figure was a mere two feet away from her towering before her she was able to let out a scream. The figure quickly darted backwards and then promptly disappeared through the wall, leaving the girl to scream hysterically on the floor. Loretta clenched her eyelids shut so that she wouldn't have to see what would happen next and her body wracked with screams. Door began to fling open as students were awoken and rushed into the hall to see what was going on. They gasped and began to whisper amonst one another and eventually security was notified and the Headmistress herself came running down the hallway. "Move! Out of my way!" Cynthia moved through the crowd that parted before her, revealing a sobbing girl in a towel rocking back and forth on the floor. Cynthia walked over and knelt down beside the girl, placing a hand on her shoulder gently, causing Loretta to gasped and recoil. She looked up at the Headmistress with wavering eyes. "You're okay now hon, what happened?" At that point Alouette came bounding around the corner and gasped, running over to Loretta fearing the worst had happened. She heard the Headmistress' question and promptly answered. "We were getting showers before bed and I forgot my brush so I went back to our dorm, I asked her if I should stay and she said it was okay. Loretta, are you okay?! I'm so sorry, I should've have left!"

Cynthia held her hand up and looked to Loretta, awaiting for the girl to answer her question. Loretta's breathing slowed as she tried to recompose herself. She swallowed hard with her lip quivering and spoke shakily. "I.. s-saw something in the bathroom, and I heard the n-noises... coming from the pipes. Then... I got scared and ran out and ended up here. And... um... I s-saw a figure with red eyes staring at me from... the end of the hallway." She looked up nervously toward the end of the hallway, prompting everyone to look the same direction. Most of the girls were absolutely terrified, some of which were too terrified to even look for fear of seeing something horrific at the end of the hallway. But there was nothing.

Cynthia nodded and rubbed the girl's shoulder as she listened to comfort her. "It... came closer to me... like it was floating and... when I screamed it ran away and went through the wall a-and.. disappeared..." As she recounted the story her eyes began to tear up again, the fear beginning to take hold of her body once more. Cynthia noticed her tense up and nodded to the security guard and Alouette. "Thank you, you're very brave for telling us what happened Loretta. Please, can you escort her back to her dorm and see if she needs anything? Thank you." The security guard and Alouette nodded, taking the girl protectively and escorting her back to the dorm, through the crowd of onlookers. A girl laughed and shouted once the trio had left. "Hah, what a wuss. That girl is making it all up, she's scared of her own shadow. I doubt anything even happened, she just wants attention!" A few girls chuckled, nodding in agreement. Cynthia turned and shot the group a menacing glare that shut them all up immediately. "That's enough. Everyone get back to bed, don't forget that our assembly for the winter trip is tomorrow. We all need a good night's rest." The crowd muttered a unified "Yes Headmistress" and dispersed back to their dorms, leaving the Headmistress and Vice Principal Beauchamp, whose hair was in curlers, alone in the hallway. It was quite the sight to see the two women standing in their PJs and Beauchamp's Slowpoke slippers.

"These Ghost Pokémon are getting rather restless... the poor girl. She was absolutely terrified!" chimed the Vice Principal. Cynthia nodded and looked in the direction of the end of the hallway. She stood up and walked to the end and ran her hands along it, feeling for any odd bumps in the surface. Her finger hit a panel and the door instantly slid open with a similar sound like that of thunder. It appeared to lead to a staircase that led down into the basement where the sounds of clawing and growls echoed from deep below. Beauchamp walked beside the Headmistress and shuddered. "They... do not sound happy. I forgot we even had this emergency exit!" Cynthia turned and looked to Beauchamp inquisitively. "But... why would a Ghost Pokémon need an emergency exit when it could phase through the floor?"

Beauchamp shrugged her shoulders and tilted her head. "Are you saying that you don't think it was a Ghost Pokémon? That... just doesn't make sense." Cynthia looked back down to the stairwell with furrowed brows and pursed lips.

"What I'm saying is...

I don't think that we're the only people that have been roaming these halls...

...I'll have to speak to Rowan about this after the trip."

Beauchamp cocked her eyebrow in disbelief and bit her lip concernedly. The women stepped back and closed the passageway before walking off back to their respective living quarters. Cynthia had a strange feeling that they were being watched the entire way back.

Out of Character: Hello everyone and welcome to the teaser for the 2018 Halloween Event! A quick TL;DR is that one of the students encountered a strange figure the vanished through one of the walls after hearing a strange clawing coming from the pipes of the girl's bathroom. Vice Principal Beauchamp believes it to be the Ghost Pokémon, but Headmistress Cynthia thinks that it may be an intruder. This scene takes place the night before Halloween and 1.5 months before the school's trip to Lake Acuity. Stay tuned for that scene and let's get to RP'ing!
