Rivals Return || Vander v. Leon

Vander stood on his end of the field with his arms crossed, sporting a smile as he admired the scenery in front of him. "Don't get cocky on me just because you have one more badge than I do!" Soma lifted an arm in excitement as his eyes gleamed with energy. "Dew dew!!"

Once the coin landed and declared who would move first, Vander jerked his head to signal Soma to step forward, the otter already pulling out his trademark weapons. "We might not have battled together for a while, but I assure you that we have gotten very strong! Battle routine, execute!" The blonde pushed his arm forward, followed by a battle roar coming from his partner.

Vander almost fell on his butt when Leon corrected him, blinking several times as he pulled himself together. It literally got him out of his zone! "Th-THREE?! HOW?!?!?!" He quickly shook his head and realized that Spooks had already set out his attack, causing him to glare and pass his thumb under his nose. "Detect!"

Soma's eyes glowed with a quick flash, allowing him to dodge with ease the poisonous waste shot at him and get closer to his opponent, causing his trainer to let out a smile. "Good idea of giving him Toxic".

"Just how we trained, dodge it!" Soma didn't need to hear anything else, the Dewott had already sprung himself forward to gain some velocity before lunging to the side, letting the attack pass right by him, which made his partner sport a grin on his face. "Strike with Razor Shell!"

Following his trainer's scream, Soma covered his tools in vortexes of clear water and transformed them into blades just before lunging at Spooks with haste. "It's been a while since we last battled, Leon. Show me how a trainer of three badges look!"

Vander's Pokedex beeped to signal him of Soma's well being, making him notice that the move Razor Shell got disabled from use... Somehow. The blonde blinked several times as he stared at his device, but got quickly interrupted when his partner called him out: Soma's hands were glowing with a spectral aura. He narrowed his eyes and glanced at Spooks, quickly realizing that it must be an ability!

"Dang it..." Soma's cry for pain rang too loud on his ears as the attack connected. He leaned the Dex' camera to scan Spooks and check what kind of ability it could possibly have, in the meantime he frowned and shouted. "You took that hit very well! Now let's bring in the main meal of the show, we got this one specifically for you two! Night Slash!"

Soma roared and shook his head, quickly dashing towards Spooks once again as black lightning manifested on his weapons.

"Grr... We're dodging that!" Soma leap to the air and did a somersault, successfully evading any damage from Spooks' attack. "His attacks aren't too fast, we gotta push through." Vander's Pokedex suddenly beeped, it's scan had finished and showed its results on the screen. The blonde peeked at the information and raised an eyebrow:

GENGAR, THE SHADOW POKEMON.

TYPE(S): GHOST / POISON

ABILITIES: LEVITATE / CURSED BODY

"Cursed Body? ... Ah! So that's why- Leon you sneaky dweeb..." Vander quickly glanced at Leon and Spooks with a movement from his eyes, squinting for a moment before darting his view towards Soma. "We can't use moves twice in a row and Sacred Sword won't do a thing to a Ghost-Type... Our best shot is to endure until the effect wears off but when will that happen...?"

Leon could notice that Vander had shifted to a much more careful style that turned him noticeably slower in his actions and was not going hyper offensive like he always did against him, he probably figured out Spooks' whole battle kit already.

The blonde nodded as if he was confirming something and passed a thumb under his nose, staring at the field with enough intensity to break a jar. "Alright time we put into action what we practiced, use Sacred Sword with Tactic 7!"

Soma flinched in surprise when he heard his trainer shout, but nonetheless nodded and took a deep breath before rushing towards Spooks with both swords crossed in front of him, they suddenly turned white and stretched to resemble spear-heads. He sliced against the Gengar, proving to be futile as both him and his attack passed right through the Ghost-Type. What in the world was Vander thinking?

Vander let out a grin as Soma passed right through Spooks and the attack did cause no effect on the Pokemon. "Heh, we weren't aiming precisely at Spooks!" Now that Soma was behind the Ghost-Type, he crashed against the field with enough force to create a crater and shatter the earth below, the strength behind the blow was big enough to lift boulders and debris around the Dewott. "And I knew that you would go again for Toxic! Now use Detect and hide behind the rocks!"

Soma chuckled and let out a cry as his attack activated, making him see the trajectory of the bletch shot towards him several seconds before it even came out of Spooks' mouth. He moved with haste to the side and shielded himself with a big piece of the field and let out the same grin his partner sported.

"If Dexter's information is right then we just need to endure a bit more before we can attack again... But how can we prevent them from forcing us to dodge so many times...?" Vander stuck a serious expression in his eyes as he stared at his opponents, his mind spreading all his possibilities like a book in front of him. "There's still one attack he hasn't showed me... Hex? That would make sense. with Toxic..." He chuckled as his blood boiled and smiled to his best friend. "I'm having a ton of fun, Leon!"

Soma suddenly flinched from Spooks'... Expression... He had been doing these for a while and finally he managed to irk him enough to shake his battle drive, but seeing the Dark Pulse attack quickly shaped him back into place right before his partner shouted another command. "Throw one of the boulders at the attack!" The Dewott let out a cry as a sign of confirmation and barely managed to kick one piece of debris towards the Dark Pulse, causing both to clash and colapse in an explosion of dust that raised the winds tremendously. "Quickly, retaliate with another Night Slash!" Vander barely managed to give another command as the dust mercilessly assaulted him while he covered his face from damage, just then another beep from his Pokedex caught his attention right before it started reading a message:

"RAZOR SHELL IS GOING TO BE AVAILABLE STARTING ON THE NEXT ROUND, YOU WOULDN'T NEED A REMINDER IF YOUR HEAD WASN'T FULL OF TERRIBLY KEPT HAIR AND HOT AIR".

Vander groaned and rolled his eyes, but despite that he was grateful for Dexter for the reminder... Perhaps he could land a hit next time.

Soma leaped forward from the dust clouds with his weapons raised, black lightning energy was already pulsing from the scalchops as he lunged them towards Spooks.
