Vander crossed his arms on his side of the battlefield as he let out a cocky, defiant grin adorn his face as he stared at his opponent: Soleil. When his best friend asked him to battle, he couldn't say no at all! Although, he did got a bit disheartened when he learned that he wasn't his first opponent, but nonetheless accepted with joy. He tried his best to look imposing and intimidating, he had battle experience and had battled strong opponents... But despite that, losing to Soleil didn't seem bad at all, he was itching in excitement just on the concept itself. "I'll throw a coin, I'll be heads!"

"Well, seems like you'll be goin' first, Vander." Sol tried to not let the nervousness show. He had battled against Ro, and lost, now Vander was gonna be impossible to defeat. Why did he even ask for this battle? Vander was among the elite, and he... he was just a farm boy playing to be a trainer.

And yet, Umbra was already in the field, her tail wagging.

"Ah- you wanna go first, girl?"
"Vee!"
"...You sure-?"
"Veeee!!"

Umbra seemed to pout, insulted by her trainer's lack of confidence. She looked at Vander, excited to see what her rival would be. "Alright, then... I'll try to do my best." Try, being the key word here.

Vander let out a chuckle and fixed his nose, tossing out a Poke Ball to the air to bring out his Turtwig. "Alright Ike, this is going to be your first battle but I know you can do it! Let's start with Razor Leaf!"

"Wig!" The Turtwig got into a stance and shook his head,shooting a pair of big, razor sharp leaves towards Umbra.

The leaves connected with the eevee before Soleil could even land a command, making her recoil and shake her head. But she looked back at her trainer, ready for anything. "Uh, good job, Umbra. Let's... let's try this. Charm!" Umbra shot up her ears, making short hops in a zig-zag pattern, winking and then sticking out her tongue at the Turtwig, doing her best charming move.

Ike stared at Umbra with a stoic, blank look on his face, daring to roll his eyes even. Vander barely held off a giggle at the sight, worried that his laugh could be misinterpreted as mocking. He fixed his throat and shot his arm forward. "Let's take that chance, use Curse!"

Ike steadied himself and adopted a ready pose against Umbra, suddenly a reddish aura with some steam appeared on him, increasing his stats.

"Yeah, uh... use Bite!" Umbra doubted Sol's command for a second, but nonetheless dashed towards Ike, small fangs bared and ready to chomp down.

Vander stood his ground and let the attack hit on Ike, quickly checking his Pokedex to see how much damage it had done. He smiled when he saw what it actually was, realizing the strategy sort of worked. "Excellent work! Now bite her back with Crunch!"

Ike nodded and lunged towards Umbra, gnawing his big turtle jaw on her side.

"Vee-!" Umbra cried out as the turtwig caught her on its jaws and effortlessly threw her away like a squeaky toy, making her skid and put up a cloud of dust. "Umbra! Umbra, you okay?!"

The eevee ran out of it, looking irritated and growling. Sol held back a sigh of relief, although he did note his partner didn't seem very happy about that Crunch. "Easy, girl! Let's try a Take Down!" This is bad... Umbra launched herself at the small turtwig, charging up speed in a reckless tackle.

Sol held his breath when the attack connected, Umbra panting in a bit of pain from the recoil, but not stopping for a second. Sol saw Ike shake his head, giving a command in advance. "Umbra, watch out for that Razor Leaf!" The eevee looked up, moving from the spot where she was, and taking advantage of the blind moment to move away from the path of the attack. "Use Bite!" The eevee bared her small fangs again, aiming for the turtwig's momentarily vulnerable face. Sol couldn't help but let some of Umbra's adrenaline rub off on him. After all, they were both battlers at heart.

Umbra stopped on her tracks for a moment, only to pivot back to the turtwig in a wild, reckless charge.

Vander's words did not ease the damage that Umbra managed to do against Ike, who cried out from how powerful her own attack was. He shook his head and hesitated a bit to continue, but remembering the cheers of his trainer pulled him to continue.

"What a champ! Now, Razor Leaf!"

The Take Down might have been stronger than what the blonde had counted for, because Ike stumbled a bit before shaking his head to send off his attack, showing how utterly powerful that little Eevee was.
