“Live in three… two… one…!”
The man behind the camera gave a finger-point to signal that they were live.
“Good morning, Sinnoh, from Jubilife City News, Channel 2,” a brunette woman spoke into a microphone bearing the insignia of the company. “We are coming to you live from what seems to be just one of the biggest tragedies this region has seen in years."
The camera panned to what looked like a mountain of bricks and stone, smoke rising in huge plumes with multiple emergency services present at the scene. The shot barely misses a stretcher with a body bag rushing toward a helicopter, a pale, lifeless hand limply swinging from the bag.
“Azure Academy was rocked last night by what authorities theorize to be a chemical explosion which erupted in the basement levels of the school, which contained unchecked science labs containing dangerous supplies simply left to collect dust. A Litwick is believed to have come into the lab and cause the explosive chain of events."
The camera panned and zoomed in on the rubble, daybreak shining over the horizon and creating a stunning image of black smoke against the pastel pink and baby blue sky. The camera panned down to show a group of students huddled around each other, some shaking and sobbing into shoulders while others held their friends, comforting them with pats on the back. It focused on a couple of girls, a redhead hugging her Seviper tightly as tears poured down into her face. She briefly looked into the camera and flipped her hair to get it out of her face before returning to hugging her Pokémon as if for dear life.
“We are unsure at this time how many fatalities or injured there are, and we expect a report from the police as students continue to be evacuated from the scene and pulled out of the rubble,” the reporter spoke before the camera panned to a shaking, young student. “Here with us now is a survivor of the incident. What can you tell us about this tragedy?”
“It was terrible!” the student sobbed, trying to maintain their composure as they were suddenly on air. “Th-there was blood, there was just screaming, and shouting, and I saw some of them just explode right in front of my eyes, when the c-“
The camera suddenly switched back to the reporter, the student’s mic cut out as they focused. “Absolutely horrifying and just unbelievable. Our hearts go out to the students of Azure Academy, and to the community of Sinnoh as a whole. Michelle O’Connor, Channel 2, back to you at HQ.”
The scene on televisions across Sinnoh cut into static for a solid ten seconds, before tuning back into the newsroom of Channel 2 headquarters, the chair in which the anchor typical sat in turned with its back to the camera, the only sound being a solemn voice.
“Thank you for the coverage, Michelle. Our hearts go out to these poor, poor students in such troubling times.”
The chair swiveled showing a woman with light blue hair tied up into a neat bun, dressed in the usual business attire of the newsroom, complete with the channel pin. She kept her frown, a genuine expression of sadness mixed with a somewhat unnerving calm before both of her index fingers made a “come here” motion to the sides. Three figures; a red-haired woman, a blue-haired man, and a purple-haired woman appeared behind her, all putting one hand on her seat with similar solemn expressions on their face.
"Truly a tragedy that will rock this region and our hearts for years to come. They should be completely avoidable, and we must strive to ensure that we live in a world of peace and no mistakes. This has been Jubilife City Channel 2 News," she spoke, finishing with a warm smile that the three behind her shared with her quickly after. "Let's go create a better tomorrow, hm?"
And the cameras cut to black.
