Mission Name: Venturing into Darkness!

Description: Workers have discovered a cave several meters from Azure Academy and are wanting several brave students to venture in and scout out what's inside. Band together with your classmates and discover what lies within the mysterious dark cave!

Rewards: 5 Battle Points and an Evolution Stone or a Fossil of your choice. (Disclaimer: Fossils are only able to be revived at the Oreburgh Mining Museum, meaning they will not be usable until after graduation)

Restrictions: None.

Dusk came quickly as the sun barley peaked over the tree-lined horizon. Artificial light however gave clarity to the digging teams all along the hillside site, nearly one mile from Azure Academy. It was a small construction team looking to set up a simple radio and pokemon range station for wild life protection and conservation; With the academy gaining recent buzz, it was without a doubt that more hikers and students alike might be traversing the woods and mountains, and, should the worst occur, the rangers would need to be on call to aid them in an hour of need.

Digging for the foundation of this station however came to a recent standstill in the afternoon, as much of the once thought stable hill collapsed in on itself, revealing that it was predominantly hollow, and lead deeper down into an uncharted cave system. The foreman, Marrien Briggs, thought it a way to the nearby rivers underground reservoir, but, not having any competent or capable trainers on the work-team called in Azure Academy to aid in clearing out and exploring the save, so that construction might be continued, and the location protected for its naturalistic values.

Frankie had been on seen for nearly an hour before the message was sent to Azure that the team required assistance, as Farsight had predicted such an event, and hurriedly brought Frankie here to report/gather information on the situation. Now comfortable in a chair, awaiting the hopeful arrival of some trainers, with camera and camcorder ready, the spry journalist and her companion hoped to get footage oif the Azure Academies finest in action, and reminisce on her older jobs that very much centered around documenting ruins and cave systems just like this.

Already experienced in venturing inside this cavern, Vander had brought his best gear back to it to assist the workers as best he could. The extra credits for the mission would be of great help anyways, he wasn't interested at all in coming back, admitedly.

But he did, and that's what matters. Once he reached the site, he was surprised by the amount of activity around, looks like the place was getting seriously worked on, what a relief. He noticed a woman sitting on a chair nearby, working frenetically on some notes, he decided to pay her no mind, he was more interested in looking for a worker that could direct him to who was he supposed to assist.

Silly Vander, you had looked at said person already and did not notice.

Throughout her meandering, Frankie scanned the crowd every minute or so to see if one of the aspirants had arrived. She was growing impatient, too used to her own gung ho method of doing things; She'd explore this place alone if it weren't for the fact that she had a job to do that wasn't directly related to the cave itself. Finally though, her patience was rewarded, as the sight of a younger strapping lad came into view. Frankie stood up quickly, Farsight nearly falling onto their back from the sudden and jerky movement, wobbling along. "W-A-WAAAA!" The alien creature exclaimed as it feel from it's stool onto the ground, grunting. Frankie in the meanwhile rushed forward to Vander, calling out. "Oi! You there! Are you from the academy? If so, you're just the kind of guy I've been needing! I can see it in your gait! Your build! You ain't afraid to get down and dirty at all!"

As her infectious enthusiasm, and wide smile assailed Vander, she pulled out a notepad of sorts, and readied a pen. "The name's Frankie, and it's a pleasure to meet you...." She made a circular motion with the pen in the air as if to ask Vander his name, allowing him to fill in the gap in speech.

The short blonde was busy admiring his surroundings when suddenly, a pen almost hit him on the face. He flinched, blinking several times before staring at its owner in complete astonishment. "Uh... V-Vander... Vander Blues".

He was completely caught of guard, but was quick to realize that Frankie is a reporter, or looks like one, which made his curiosity bite in a bit. "So... You need me or something?"

With a flick of her writing hand and a curtsy to follow, Frankie greeted the lad with a follow up gesture made to the cave. "That I do; As the woman who will be documenting the going ons of Azure academy and compartmentalizing them all into an informative documentary movie of sorts on all of your journeys to greatness, I must be on the front lines of even the most dangerous of events! But, don't worry, I never intend to be dead weight, and it isn't my first time in a danger close locale!" Farsight stumbled over to Frankies side, shaking their head as they regained composure and gave a wave to Vander, making cute and inquisitive greeting noises alongside. "This here's farsight, my companion and friend, and you, dear aspirant, will join us in mapping out and exploring this under ground cave system! Apparently the workers have said they would've continued working on it but want us to get a read on the structural integrity, so the foundation doesn't fall in, and furthermore, if there are ornery pokemon down there, it's our job to clear em out, or at least pacify them into another cave system so the workers here can do their job." She threw a pokeball up in the air repeatedly in a lackadaisical manner. "So, what'ya say?"

Vander couldn't help but to get a bit overwhelmed by Frankie's electric attitude, not realizing that he can come off quite the same to some people. He smiled at Farsight and nodded before crossing his arms, smirking.

"Well, I didn't understand much but... Sure, I'll help! I have been here already so it should be a breeze!"

He pulled out a pair of Pokeball and in a flash of blue, a Growlithe and a Hitmomtop suddenly appeared and were ready for action.

"That's Lloyd and the spinny one is Cid, we'll need fire to light the way, and someone to deal with the Rock-Types."

Lloyd barked and did a hairflip, letting out sparklea despite not being shiny. Cid folded his arms and nodded at the newly met pair, acknowledging them.

With the growlithe and Hitmontop introduced, Frankie couldn't help but admire the two adorable companions Vander had. She quickly brought forth an unlit torch then and held it down to Lloyd as a way of asking for it to be lit. Once that had been done, she took in a deep breathe in readiness before speaking. "Great! Glad to have a guide through tunnels like this! In that case, you lead on. I'll keep the light close, and I'll tell you if Farsight here, my Elgyem friend, forsees anything I should warn you about."

Frankie motioned for the group to move towards the cave with her, and as she began down the somewhat steep slope that was it's entrance, she began again. "Already it reminds me of all those ruins and caverns I've filmed and investigated as a journalist specializing in archaeological and historical findings. Beautiful scenery really-Though sometimes you could do without the smell of tomb dust in the air." Upon reaching the bottom of the slope, she turned and allowed Vander to take the lead. "What about you? Why not tell me some about yourself? I'm certain there's no better time than now, the camera -loves- when you can marry exposition and action all into one scenario!" In her other hand was held said camera, resting on her shoulder while the torch gave proper light to their path.

Upon taking the lead, Vander managed to obtain a clearer view on his surroundings, leaning the torch forward to ease his eyes from the dark with a bit of light.

He suddenly grinned and looked back at Frankie before noticing the camera. Hitting his chest with his fist proudly, he gave a defiant smirk to the camera. "Well, you are talking to the next Sinnoh Champion!! You better believe it cuz it's totally happening!" He posed to the camera, already loving the attention.

His Growlithe barked, following the same entusiasm, Hitmontop on the other hand, facepalmed and blushed in embarrassment, his trainer is such a dork.

Frankie chuckled in an encouraging way, smiling more widely as Vander posed. "The camera loves you darling, keep it up, haha! But, jokes aside, would you say that is your primary aspiration?" A mission and an interview; How wrong could it go? Very, but neither Farsight nor Frankie would ever admit that until it had already been the case.

After Vander would give his responses to that question however, noises would be herd deeper within the cave system; The sound of splashing water, shifting stones, and dirt unsettled. The workers had warned Frankie that there were some onery wildlife down in the depths here, and they couldn't get too distracted. "We'll talk more in a bit, eyes forward for now. Can't get too comfy!" Elgyem made to the front of the group, seemingly ready for a battle as the group would slowly begin again towards their destination, and closer towards the shifting sounds.

"Aw yeah! Of course it is! I will be the numero uno! Best of the best and on the Hall of Fame!" Enjoying his self gloating, Vander kept posing and barking big words to the camera with a large grin, which soon disappeared when he followed Frankie's lead towards the noises deep in the cave.

He furrowed his brows and got into a stance, standing in front of Farsight and the reporter. "Lloyd, Cid! Get ready, battle routine set!" And with those orders, both Pokemon got into a defensive stance, ready to jump at whatever would appear from the shadows.

From the dark, illuminated by torchlight, came a group of running Marowaks and their Cubone litters. There were eight in total, with five Marowaks in total and three cubones accompanying. As they came to a grinding halt, it was clear the group seemed to be fleeing from something. Never the less, it was also clear that the eldest and most battle scarred of the Marowaks intended to push through the trainers who blocked their path, believing them threats and predators to their families young. Two scarred and battered Marowaks charged forth in unison, both throwing their bones with deadly accuracy towards both Cid and Farsight while their kin huddled back, awaiting for the path to be clear, or for an opening to be made.

"Farsight, watch it, incoming!" Too little too late did Frankie warn her companion was the bonemerang thwapped the alien creature upside it's egg-shaped head, and sent it tumbling backwards with a pained yelp, leaving a nasty bruise and cuts from the coarse cave floor. Rising from this injured state in a weary fashion, Farsight found themselves further assaulted as the same Marowak who threw the bonemerang leaped towards him with desperate ferocity. Tumbling out of the way, Frankie managed to find an ample sized stone and hurl it at the Marowak As it was distracted, bringing it's attention to Frankie with malice filled eyes as the stone chipped and cracked it's skull covered helmet. "Oi! Bone-brain! Over here!" She whistled tauntingly before issuing a command to Farsight. "Call upon the power of the stars! Bless us and our allies!"

With the order given, Farsight stabilized themselves and began to float off of the floor, hands to the sky and eyes closed as a psychic hum began to fill the room. With a sudden gust of wind, the Elgyems eyes opened, and a veil of star dust like energies would coat Cid, Lloyd, and Farsight, raising their defenses again all forms of attacks significantly. The team of allies would appear to give off their own light, a glow of cosmic energies swirling about and protecting them from harm.

Vander managed to duck for cover before one Bonemerang hit him, gritting his teeth as he stared at the family of Pokemon. "Ugh... No chance to talk...!" He noticed the aura around his Pokemon, which caused him to let out a small, confident smile before pulling himself together.

"That'll do! Lloyd, help Farsight! Cid, take care of the other Marowak!"

The Growlithe barked and hurried towards the injured Psychic-Type, growling as he engulfed his mouth in fire. He did not need to wait for his trainer to command him to attack, shooting two Flame Burst attacks one after the other. The first one as a warning shot, and the second one to directly hit the Marowak. In a gallantly fashion, Lloyd flipped his hair, letting sparkles fly by as he landed in front of his ally, before resuming his barks towards his opponent.

Cid on the other hand, rushed with upmost haste his opponent and circled him as he spun around. "Alright! Manuever 21!" Hoping to make the Marowak dizzy, Cid spun faster around it for a couple of seconds before going to the Pokemon's side, grab its arm and pull it off, using his momentum to swing the opponent fiercely before throwing it down towards the other Marowak. Vander jumped, approving the ordeal. "Hell yeah! We got them!"

Despite the good showing on behalf of Vanders tag team of companions, these Marowak weren't finished quiet yet. The families they'd escorted with them seemed to cringe in fear, but as the two veteran marowak rose to their feet once more, beleaguered but still ready to fight, they cheered in encouragement. The one Cid had thrown retaliated first, slamming their bone club down into the rock floor with extreme strength, sending a shockwave of upheaving rocks towards the spinning fighting type, sending them flying into the air as the other marowak lept upwards and attempted to slam the Hitmontop down to the ground.

Frankie interfered however, "Make 'em see triple farsight!" And so came a sudden burst of pinkish and teal psychic energy from the Elgyems hand, engulfing the leaping Marowak and causing it to swing wildly mid air, missing the Hitmontop completely, only to fling it's bonemerang accidentally at it's own ally, having been lost in the confusion attack by Farsight.

As the two Marowaks began to seem defeated, the rumbling returned ever more greatly, following by a grating roar that sounded as though boulders were grinding together and the earth itself was enraged. The marowaks collected themselves up in an injured state, and kicked rocks and dirt alongsidetheir families into the faces of the trainers and their pokemon as they all scattered, and made to escape the cave. Just as Frankie was about to congratulate the two, she was blinded, and began coughing. "Great work Van-CAK! ACH! What the! Agh my eyes!" She sputtered and stumbled, still holding firm to the camera, even wiping the dirt off it's lens as the roaring drew closer. "Ugh, Vander!? I don't think the marowaks were the real threat here! Ach!" With a few final coughs, came the interruption of the roaring, and the sudden sight of a devastating series of rock blasts were headed their way. Frankie lept out of the way and onto the ground as the spikes sailed overhead, Farsight doing the same, with it's Cosmic Power's cloak of defensealso aiding in shattering some of the fragments as they came close to hurting Elgyem. "Heads down! Watch it!"

As she gave the warning, the looming threat became clear. A massive and enraged Gigalith was stomping its way down the tunnel, on a warpath of destruction.

Vander barely ducked to dodge the projectiles and managed to notice the escaping Marowak with their Cubone, he raised an eyebrow before hearing the barks of his Growlithe, causing him to dart his eyes to the end of the cave.

"HOLY SHIT IT'S A GIGALITH!!" He screamed as it thrashed its way towards them. He fixed himself and commanded his Growlithe to run back towards Frankie, then pulled out a Pokeball and with a swift and obviously practiced swing fashion, tossed it to pop out his partner: a Dewott.

"Okay! We gotta make sure that boulder mess doesn't cause more trouble. Let's go Soma!" He pushed his arm forward and pointed at the Gigalith.

"Dew dew!!" Soma unsheathed his scalchops and raised his arms, letting out some battle cries before rushing towards the Rock-Type.

"Slice its legs, Razor Shell!" Both Vander and Soma, looking in complete synchronization, made a slicing motion with both arms before Soma actually reached the Gigalith, his scalchops let out a wild torrent of water that took the shape of blades, and with haste he struck his opponent fiercely.

The rock titan buckled and roared more fiercly at the watery assault it faced. It had been wounded, but by no means was this more than an agitating strike. Though disadvantaged in typing, this creature seemed hardened beyond years of experience and ferocity. With it's injured leg now at an awkward angle, the Giglaith raised one of it's other appendages to smack at the Dewott with immense speed and force. Hit or miss, the arm of the rock pokemon smashed into the wall of the cave, and the ceiling began to fall inwards.

Frankie had just scampered to her feet alongside Farsight as this accrued, and while the ceiling began to crumble, Frankie gave a quick order. "Farsight! Use your psychic powers to keep the rocks from falling!" Without a moment more of hesitation, the Elgyem held their hands upwards and out, and began to tense up and squint in pain as they devoted all of their energy to preventing a cave in from occurring, or by at least delaying it. "Vander! Fall back! We can't hold it back forever! We need to lure it back into it's own cave in! If we weaken it enough you can finish it off with Dewott, but right now it's plating is too thick!" Frankies advice was interuppted then as more spike, bristling from the gigaleths form were shot her way, as one stuck her in the shoulder, sending her stumbling back down. She yelped in pain, and held the now bleeding wound intensely. "We'll! Agh! Cover you! Just go!"
